What this is, plainly
Ryde Roofing is a local roofing referral service for the district between the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers. You describe the problem, we arrange for an established, licensed and insured roofing contractor to inspect it at no cost, and you get a written, itemised quote. If you want the work done, it goes ahead under that contractor's licence and carries a written workmanship warranty. If you do not, nothing happens and you owe nothing.
We would rather say that clearly than dress it up. The full referral disclosure is here.
Why a referral service instead of a directory
Three reasons, all of them practical.
Someone has to triage the call. A stain on a cornice, a lifted sheet on a block of flats and a pre-auction inspection are three different jobs needing three different skill sets. Sending all of them to the same number wastes everyone's time. Sorting the enquiry before it goes anywhere is most of the value.
Local knowledge should not have to be rediscovered on every job. The roofs here follow patterns. Inter-war and post-war terracotta through Ryde, West Ryde, Denistone and Eastwood, failing at the bedding and pointing rather than in the tile. Low-pitch sections and box gutters on the 1960s and 70s brick walk-ups. Genuine slate and firm conservation controls across the Hunters Hill municipality. Salt exposure on the river frontages at Putney, Tennyson Point, Henley, Huntleys Point and Woolwich. And everywhere, blocks that fall away toward the water and concentrate runoff into two corners.
Compliance is not optional. In New South Wales, residential building work over $5,000 including GST must be carried out under a licence and under a written contract, work above $20,000 requires home building compensation cover, and asbestos removal above 10 square metres of non-friable material requires a licensed removalist who notifies SafeWork NSW five days in advance. A referral service that ignores any of that is doing you no favours.
What you can expect
- A free inspection. On the roof where it is safe to be, from a ladder where it is not, and in the ceiling space, because that is where the evidence usually is.
- Photographs. Of anything we want you to understand, so you are not taking a verbal description on faith.
- A written, itemised quote. Each element priced separately, so you can see what you are paying for and compare honestly.
- Honesty about the alternatives. If a repair will do, we will say so rather than quoting a replacement. If the tiles are finished and a coating would be money wasted, we will say that too.
- No pressure. No same-day discount, no limited-time offer, no phone calls chasing you.
- A workmanship warranty in writing on completed work.
What we will not do
We will not quote a roof over the phone. Nobody can price a roof they have not seen, and a number given sight unseen only exists to be revised later.
We will not invent a figure for insurance purposes, or tell you what your policy covers. We document what we find and leave the policy to your insurer.
We will not recommend changing a roof material in a conservation area without checking the planning controls for your actual address first. The City of Ryde LEP lists heritage conservation areas, and in the Municipality of Hunters Hill complying development is not available inside one at all.
